Alex Burger is an award winning author, screenwriter, and playwright. He is based in Los Angeles and is currently developing multiple TV projects including co-creating a new series Fire City with celebrated author Carolyn Cooke, co-writing a feminist TV series Here She Comes, and developing a web series The Campaign for Mundo Loco Fims. Alex is known for head-writing Seasons 3 and 4 of the SAFTA winning TV series Umlilo (Zulu for “the fire” eTv 2015-2016). He also developed and wrote on Die Testament (Netwerk24 2019) Doubt (Mzansi Magic 2016), Hard Copy Season 4 (SABC3 2016), and 90 Plein Street Season 5 (SABC2 2016). His theatre work includes Fees Must Fall (Wits University, 2016), The Inkanyamba (Market Theatre Lab, 2015) and Whose Blood (The Old Operating Theatre London, 2012) which played to a fully sold-out run.
In his other life Alex has a long standing relationship working on development projects around the world for the World Bank (2005-present) and he served as the Vice President of Community Affairs for AngloGold Ashanti – Africa’s largest Mining company (2011-2013). Alex holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BA magna cum laude from Harvard University in the Comparative Study of Religion.
